Todd Klipp's January Trip to Uganda
Todd, along with Pastor Whitney Hall and Linda Cohen of the Covenant Congregational Church of South Easton, Massachusetts, traveled to Uganda in mid-January 2011.  They inspected the progress at the Bakka orphanage, the Lucky Star Primary School, and the JPC internet cafe.  Todd met with Pr. Frank Mukiliza and other church leaders, as well as several of the sponsored students.  Whitney preached and provided counseling at JPC, while Linda led a two-day writing skills program.  It was a powerful and productive visit.

The school celebrated the end of the school year with presentations from the children and teachers.  Pictured are the first graduates with teachers and the guest of honor, Pr. Lydia Kivumbi (center back).  We are working hard to improve the facilities at the school to make it more attractive to students and their families in preparation for the opening of a new school year in February 2011.

Bakka Orphanage

The Christian Friends Academy in Bakka  also held  year-end festivities in which students performed for the guests.  Construction of the two new buildings is complete, and we are blessed with 240 children.  We are now expanding the facility through the construction of a third classroom building.  Read more about the Bakka orphanage in Sandy's visit summary below.

Sandy Gannon's October Visit to Uganda
Sandy Gannon spent a week in Kampala and visited the orphanage in Bakka.

"During my October visit to the Christian Friends Mission Academy, I was encouraged by the many positive changes that have taken place since my last visit in 2008.

The school now has almost 240 children and is a source of pride for the teachers, the students, and their parents and guardians.  The Academy has its first graduating class of 4 students; the teachers and students worked days, nights, and weekends to prepare for their exams.

The teachers and students are also very involved in after-school activities. These include the school choir which sang like angels! The girls have a netball team and the boys have a soccer team.  They are a source of pride and joy to all of the students in the school.

The school now has a water tank; this will ensure that the children have clean water to drink and make it easier to prepare their meals.

Although the Academy now has two new classroom buildings, due to the large number of children it is still necessary to rent part of the old facility which is in very bad condition. We need to construct another building and are in the process of planning and raising funds for that.

We purchased sewing machines and other equipment to help the ladies of Jesus Power Church start a sewing business.  We have rented a space and should be in business soon.  They also learned how to make pot-holders.

The JPC youth group learned how to make friendship bracelets.  They are very interested in having American pen-pals and would like to learn computer, knitting, sewing, and beautician skills."
